My Grandmother Alice Maud [Lal] was the last of five children.Their mother was Mrs Eliza Humphries, my Great, Great Grandfather was James Reynolds.James was her second husband and they married in St. Mary's Church, Lowgate. She had a grocer shop in Dagger Lane. They moved to No. 7 Prince Street and the children went to Fish Street Elementary School. The teachers worked long hours for poor pay.My Grandmother believed they suffered from 'brain fever' due to poor diets and unhealthy living conditions. As kids they played street games, attended Sunday school and generally helped out!
