I can remember when the River Hull was regularly dredged of mud.The boat used had a contraption with buckets on a moving chain.During the night the 'mud dredger' was a familiar sound as the buckets rattled up on the chain then down to dump mud in the hold! As a child I remember boys use to jump from one barge to another.The barges were tied together waiting for the tide.
