Hustle and Bustle, Lowgate

Medium: Oils on Canvas

Original Size: 75cm x 60cm

My Uncle Jack aged 87 was interviewed in The Hull Times, April 8th 1971.He was quoted as saying that "People in 1871 never visited the Shambles for their meat until after 11.00 pm on a Friday or Saturday night!" And of the crowds Jack remarked, "You could walk on peoples' heads without falling off"!

The Rank flour wagons would have been a familiar sight trotting a course through the crowded streets avoiding handcarts, horse drawn wagons and hansom cabs and the busy people going about their business!
