The painting features an old sailing ship in Princes Dock just before the quickening advance of steamships.

As a child I was broght up with stories about my maternal great grandfather going to sea like the one depicted.

I think this vessel was part of the timber trade.

I wanted to paint the romance of sail and show the dock being used as it was designed to be used originally.
