Mike jogging on the Westwood

Medium: Oils on canvas

Original size: 77 x 51

I was invited to paint a picture of a man jogging on the Westwood with his family in view and a portrayal of himself as a young boy in a Manchester United strip.

The occasion was his 40th birthday and although living in Stirling, he originally came from Beverley.

I enjoyed painting this picture as it gave me the opportunity to paint one of my favourite views.

When planning the painting, I decided to include the cow and calf as a link to the mother and child relationship as seen in the advancing family of figures.

I also wanted the animals to break the flatness of the scene between the running figure and his family.

The boy playing football in a way brings one’s focus back into the painting.

The colours are very vivid and the original painting glows with the richness of the Summer hues.
